Hump Day Quickie Cocktail #24: The Presbyterian!

Happy Hump Day, readers!

Scotch. How do you feel about it? It is not a liquor in our usual rotation, but sometimes it just hits the spot. And this quickie cocktail? Well, even if you are not a scotch drinker, this is still one for you.

Say hello to The Presbyterian!

This cocktail, a ridiculously simple combo of scotch, ginger ale, and club soda, has actually been around since the late 1890s. No one is quite sure how it gained its religious name, but alas, here we are.

For those of you who may be concerned about the use of scotch in this drink, worry not. The ginger ale and club soda cut the edge off of the scotch without totally subduing the smoky flavor. The result is a complex but totally drinkable cocktail, that is the perfect balm for your mid-week blues.

For The Presbyterian, you will need:

  • 2 oz scotch
  • approx. 2 oz ginger ale
  • approx. 2 oz club soda

Gather your ingredients, plus your jiggers, bar spoon, and collins glass.

Since this is a quickie cocktail, we will be making it directly in our serving glass.

First, place a few ice cubes in your glass.

Now measure out your scotch, and pour it in there!

Now top off your glass with equal parts ginger ale and club soda.

Give the drink a quick stir, and you are ready to go!

A delectable, old fashioned quickie cocktail that will give you the strength to make it to Friday.
