Happy Hump Day, readers!
This week’s hump day quickie cocktail is a doozy–but sometimes a doozy is exactly what you need!
So get ready to sit back and relax with the amazingness that is Kevin’s Grog!
First of all, we need to acknowledge that this recipe comes from the one of a kind BrotherAtTheBar, and as always, we are infinitely grateful.
Now, fair warning here folks: this drink has double the normal amount of booze, and no major mixers. Aka, this is not a drink for the weak of heart.
What is is, though, is positively delicious. So, if you’re ready for it, this is what you will need for Kevin’s Grog:
- 3-4 oz traditional, barrel aged rum
- juice of 1 medium lime
- 1-2 tablespoons superfine sugar (to taste)
Gather your ingredients plus your jigger, fruit press, measuring spoons, serving glass, and shaker glass.
First, fill your serving glass with ice.
Now squeeze the juice of one medium-sized lime directly into the glass.
Follow that up with 1 tablespoon of superfine sugar. Depending on your preferences, you may want more sugar after the drink is finished. Start with 1 tablespoon to be safe, and then add from there if the drink is too tart for you.
Now add in your rum. We used slightly less than 4 oz, but again, we will leave the exact amount you use up to your personal preference. After all, this is Hump Day Quickie Cocktails–it’s the wild west over here!
Once you have all of your ingredients in your serving glass, transfer it back and forth to the shaker glass a few times to combine the ingredients. You want the sugar to integrate into the drink. Normally, we would shake this drink, but because this is a quickie cocktail we are giving you a shortcut. If you want to be more thorough, shake this baby.
And boom! There you have it! A fabulously strong and simple cocktail, perfect for those nights when you are low on ingredients but really need a drink.
