Alright Woman At The Bar-ers, we need to level with you. We have been suffering from quite a nasty cold this week, and it is seriously throwing us off our game. But instead of completely falling down on the job, we decided to put up a special Friday spotlight: A Wonderfully Boozy Cold Remedy!
As we move from winter to spring we bet we will not the only ones who will be stricken with this dastardly illness, and at least this way you will have an easy and booze-filled cure on hand when you need it!
We also want to give credit where credit is due and let you know that several FriendsAtTheBar clued us in to these ingredients–so congrats, FriendsAtTheBar, you earned yourself an official Woman At The Bar title!
Alright, it’s cure time! You will need:
- 2 cloves of garlic, chopped
- Equal amount of fresh ginger, chopped
- 1 1/2 oz bourbon (preferably Bulleit)
- Honey
- Fresh-squeezed lemon juice
- Water
First off, chop up your ginger and garlic. Either toss that in a pot with some water to boil, or, if you have a tea kettle, throw it in there with some water and steam it up!
After it is ready, pour the concoction into a mug — using your mesh strainer to capture any rogue garlic or ginger pieces so they don’t make it into your glass.
Now squeeze in the juice of about 1/2 a lemon, and add honey to taste.
Last but not least, add in that delicious, delectable, divine bourbon!
We highly recommend Bulleit, which we consider to be the best everyday-use bourbon on the market. Are there better bourbons out there? Yes. Are there better bourbons out there that taste amazing, cost $30 or less per bottle, and can be generously shared with friends without making you resentful because you just wasted really expensive booze on a group of people who are not worthy? NOPE. As our friendly neighborhood liquor store clerk told us yesterday when we went to replenish our stock of Bulleit, this stuff is so amazing that “it sells like candies.” In our mind, it is far, far better than candies.
(did you see how we still worked in a liquor spotlight into our cold remedy post? Self high five for that!)
Now, back to your cold cure. Mix that steamy beverage up, and drink drink drink!
Fair warning, this is a bit of…an acquired taste. But it will definitely, definitely make you feel better. And as a bonus, it will make you tipsy too! AND it definitely tastes better than Nyquil–that stuff was sent by satan directly from hell.
Now if you will excuse us, we are going to take our boozy tea back to bed with us and cozy up to a long day of Netflix binging.
Stay tuned this weekend, though — we have a feeling a special Secret Sunday post is in the works!
