Happy Hump Day ladies and gents! We’re back again for another edition of Quickie Cocktails, and this week we are taking it back to reminisce about a shared experience we all had during childhood.
We would venture to guess that every single one of you, at one time or another, visited your grandparents’ home, and there, sitting in a dish on the coffee table right next to grandpa’s recliner, was a bowl of Werther’s Original caramels. Are we wrong? Of course we aren’t. Well, the next time you get a hankering for The Good Stuff you need not risk the tooth chipping and choking hazard that comes with those rock hard little devils, but instead can enjoy this baby. Trust us, we know you want to.
Before we get into the recipe it needs to be stated up top that this creation comes directly from the brilliant, but oft not cocktail oriented, mind of a certain woman named Pamela–KellyAtTheBar’s very own mother. So we salute you Mom, for this wondrous invention.
Now, onto our quickie recipe! You will need:
- 2 oz Stoli Salted Karamel Vodka
- (aprox) 4 oz cream soda
- ice
This one is just about as quick and dirty as you can get.
Gather all two of your ingredients plus your 2 oz jigger, bar spoon, and serving glass.
Fill the glass with ice, and pour your vodka directly into that baby!
A quick note about this vodka: in general, flavored vodkas are a real crapshoot, and can often be disgusting. This one is a rare exception, and we beg you to get the genuine article when you go to the store to purchase it. Do not, under any circumstances, purchase a bottom-shelf flavored vodka–and if we hear that a single one of you has purchased Pinnacle brand vodka, we will disown you. That is all.
Now, top off your glass with your cream soda.
We really like to use Dr. Brown’s Cream Soda for this drink, but you can also use a vanilla bean soda like this:
The one note is just to not use Henry Weinhard’s brand (pictured below), it is far too sweet and frothy to work well in this drink.
Now give the drink a quick stir to combine, and bam! You’re ready to go!
Now sit back, relax, watch a little Price is Right and Wheel of Fortune, and enjoy your very own Werther’s Original!
Until tomorrow!
